Genre - Romance/Comedy

Hindi cinema to be particular is not been the one that has seen a shortage of movies that deals with humor. Obviously, we had had our share of laughs. There are different variant of comedy movies that has worked in the past and working now-a-days. There are some comic movies on the lines of Hrishikesh Mukerji and Basu Chatterjee putting us in splits trough their full masala based comic content and one-liners. Even movies like Tere Bin Laden, Do Dooni Char and Phas Gaye Re Obama that has the full dose of laughter have worked wonders now even in the days of Anees Bazmee, David Dhawan and Priyadarshan.

Having said that, I genuinely feel that the way a comic movie is being made is slightly but slowly drifting from the original content base of its share of just comedies. Yes; you have guessed that absolutely right. These times, comic outings are slightly drifting their content towards reality and that' s what comes in terms with Madhur Bhandarkar' s newest outing, Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji.

Okay, time for some reality check guys. Madhur Bhandarkar has been a director known strictly for his somber and serious cinema that hits hard on the issues of society through his leads since his Chandni Bar till Jail. However, for good, he changes track of his film' s content this time to make a light-hearted entertainment. But, it' s not those ' all no-nonsense' drama that we get to see but what comes out from the enacting of his characters is nothing but they lead two lives in one go. Yes; in Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji, Madhur emphasizes more on the ways his protagonists live their lives and less on lighter moments, giving us a whole new brand of comic-based movies. One such comic serial I can really feel proud to mention here is ' Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashmah' on SAB TV as after every episode after getting our dose of some light laughter, we also get to learn some moral values too. It' s a great effort to see the same thing being transferred to the silver screen. And How!

Coming back to Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji, Much like Madhur' s earlier films like Fashion for instance, his newest film to hit the deck also talks about real people and various situations surrounding them. The only exception this time is that the emotions extracted are not dark and intense but lighter and comic. It does not talk about how there person find their love but let me leave that for public to see else the twist in the tale would sour the whole efforts!

One thing I would really like to mention is that when I saw that the flick has been released with ' Only Adults' category, it make me wonder that fanfare containing even more adult and objectionable content has been passed with an ' U' certificate. Why such biases censor board? It' s high time to resurrect the whole situation for the best interests of the film industry.

Final Word? Only one sentence to describe! Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji is amongst one of the most accomplished work of the director, Mr. Madhur Bhandarkar! Take a bow, Madhur, you rock as a comedy story teller too!!!

Let' s see the basic story of this slice of the life film in the pivotal words of none other than Mr. Taran Adarsh, one of the most trusted trade analysts for a career spanning more than two decades.

Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji is a slice of life film revolving around Naren [Ajay Devgn], Abhay [Emraan Hashmi] and Milind [Omi Vaidya] and their encounters with love.

A listless Naren, well in his thirties and going through a divorce [Rituparna Sengupta], falls in love with a vibrant and bubbly June [Shazahn Padamsee], who has just stepped out of her teens. Milind, a poet and an idealistic lover, is enamored by an ambitious and practical Gunjan [Shraddha Das], who is determined to follow her dreams. A charming Casanova Abhay starts feeling an alien emotion called love when he feels increasingly drawn towards Nikki [Shruti Haasan], a modern girl who knows her needs and speaks her mind.

With its real characters and relatable situations, the film takes a witty look at love and the extent people will go to evade it or attain it.

Well, looks like an easy story to think and speculate about its culmination point, but like earlier we live that for our valued audiences to think and decide.

Stating further, Taran gives us an account on how a new type of movie later floats. Let' s see

Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji seizes your attention gradually. One of the reasons could be because Madhur narrates three stories concurrently. Ajay, who portrays the life of a harried bank manager going through a ' mid-life crisis' is very compelling. Watch him in sequences when he sets his eyes on his new office assistant [Shazahn].

Consider the character of Omi, a true-blue romantic, working as a matchmaker, who has never been able to find a soul mate himself. One comes across such people in real life as well. And, of course, there' s Emraan, who uses affluent and well heeled women as a stepping stone to attain the resources and luxuries of life.

His sequences with Tisca Chopra add spice to the proceedings. Ditto for the women in the film. Especially Shraddha and Tisca, who use men to their advantage, Very real characters. In fact, the variety of love and relationships that we get to watch here is so diverse from what we have been subjected to in Hindi movies since time immemorial. As a matter of fact, each of us must have experienced the varied emotions depicted in this film at some juncture in our lives.

Well, it shall be our audience who should see the flick and decide if whatever is being said is true or not.

Special word of applause for Madhur Bhandarkar, a director that tries a new area of cinema altogether and much to out delight comes clean and victorious. He handles the intense and comic scenes well and we get to see it draft by draft as scenes are unlocked on the screen. He has already proved his worth as a serious story teller and should be able to make a niche name for himself even in this newer area of cinema (Comedy). Madhur while making the movie has made it a point to make it stick to the format of a commercial entertainer and succeeds in his efforts flawlessly. Even the screen play is water-tight but same cannot be said for the writing which could have been tighter and provided an extra zing. The climax should have been more realistic and the editing more tight.

Musically speaking, there are two numbers in ' Tere Bin' and "Abhi Kuch Dino Se' that are really music to the ears and soothing. Sanjay Chel' s dialogues are witty and perfect for this genre of film-making.

From the performance point of view, Ajay Dvgan proves his versatility and adaptability to various types of roles yet again. Ajay underplays his part readily and whatever shall be said be about this natural screen scorcher shall seem like small only. See him to believe him!

Emraan Haashmi has proved his worth in movies like ' Jannat' and ' Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai' and this one proves it yet again. He is admirable and delivers a superb performance to be engaged to. Good work!

Omi Vaidya has got a subdued role to play but the way he pitches in; it becomes an endearing role to be liked by one and all.

Amongst the ladies, Shazahn looks like a doll and adds vibrancy and freshness to the proceedings. Shraddha Das is able to provide all the right shades to her character. Shruti leaves a mark, although she appears late in to the narrative.

On the whole, Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji is a slice of the life film that has all the right content and its heart at the right place. It shall appeal to the yuppies mostly and grow to come out as another clean winner. It has the power to grow on you.

From box-office point of view, DTBHJ has strong chances to become another hit in January (No One Killed Jessica and Yamla Pagla Deewana being the other two). Thumbs up! Highly Recommended! Go out and enjoy it this weekend!!!

Rating - ***1/2 (V Good)

Verdict - DTBHJ is another hit in the offing! Don' t miss it!
