Aashayen is Another Flick Best Not To Be Discovered!

Picture This! You are a happy chap. All set to marry the love of your life after having won the coveted money required to run a household vehemently.

Life is on a song till out of nowhere it comes to a grinding halt when you discover that you have cancer and only some more months to live.

That' s the main subject line, the new John Abraham starrer, Aashayen deals with.

To give you an idea about the flick, the film was in the making for more than two years and must say by now time has changed and people are not in the mood to accept such ideas which are passé.

Remember the debacle of Milenge-Milenge and Paathshaala in the more recent scenario as these were in the making for 2 and 5 years, respectively.

Coming to the cause of Aashayen, it has its moments but in parts but one must remember when you are throwing up a buffet, all efforts shall be made to ensure that all dishes are equally enjoyable and not in parts and that' s the main problem with Aashayen.

Final Words? Sadly, this caper shall not have any takers and shall fizzle out in the days to come.

Anyways, let' s see who the culprit here is. Is it the delay in the release of the movie on time or story or the performances?

Story (In the words of Taran Adarsh)

At a party to celebrate his big win at gambling, Rahul (John Abraham) proposes to his girlfriend Nafisa (Sonal Sehgal). Within minutes of announcing his engagement, he collapses on the floor. After a medical diagnosis, Rahul discovers that he has only a few months left to live. He is diagnosed with lung cancer.

A distraught Rahul learns of a hospice and without sounding off his girlfriend about it, packs his bags and leaves in the middle of the night. He meets a number of people at the hospice, who may have failing health, but unfailing spirit.

It' s the delayed release of the movie that emerges out as the main culprit.

Nagesh Kukkunoor has since his Iqbaal days, been an enchanting story teller and a master in his skills to evoke out superb performances from his leads and this one is no exception in terms to the subject mentioned above.

John Abraham emerges out as a natural performer and enacts his role with utmost ease. The movie puts him away from his earlier sets of flicks that had boasted about his looks and personality. Aashayen takes a U turn in this regard and picture him as a neat performer.

Sonal Sehgal is efficient and same can be said about Anaitha Nair who is purely dynamic.

On the whole, Aashayen fizzle out in the writing department. We had been telling about content is the king and not the ensemble cast minus the hard hitting story.

Not much aasha (Hope) from this John Abraham caper is expected.

From the box-office point of view, given the fact that the movie has been made on a shoe string budget, it shall be able to recover its non-theatrical costs and save the day for the distributors but, won' t be able to repeat the same and would be disastrous in the theatrical category. It' s a huge let down in the terms of content and execution. Give it a much deserved passé.

Rating: *1/2

Verdict: Aashayen is no hope at all!

Friday night was " Aashayein" ; not so engrossing, typical Kukunoor' s film with a tedious narration having only few moments which makes impact!
